Meowy Christmas

Gee, can you guess what we got for Christmas?

We had been talking about getting a kitten for a while now, but didn’t want to pay the $150 that most pet stores were asking.  The Hubby emailed his SIL and while we were sitting at the Detroit Opera House, waiting for the Lion King to start, (it was absolutely fantabulous, by the way), she called and said she had found one at the pet store by her for $20.  Now, we’ll have to take him and get him shots ourselves, but that’s okay.

He looks like a tortoiseshell, but those are almost always females, so I’m not sure if he is or not.  The really cool thing is that he has an extra toe on each of his front paws, so it looks like he’s wearing little mittens when he walks.  That makes him a polydactyl, which Sebastian thinks is way cool because it sounds like a dinosaur name.

He named him Mike the cat, and his nickname is Spaz.  Seb is still a little afraid of it when he starts pouncing on his feet or nibbling on him.  He’s afraid to push him away because he thinks the cat will really bite him.  That’s because when Seb was just a little guy, he was bitten on the back of his thigh, right near his butt by his cousins’ cat that had some had some issues after a nasty fall it took.  He’s getting a bit more used to the cat though.  Right now, the two of them are cuddled up in Seb’s bed, watching t.v. together.  The cuteness is almost too much.

On Sunday, we went over to the hubby’s Brother’s house to celebrate with his side of the family.  We pick names there and my brother-in-law got me the most awesome set of knives, complete with carving fork, knife sharpener, not one but two sets of kitchen shears, all in a lovely butcher block holder.  And, he also got me a small food processor.  I’m thinking he spent more than the $50 minimum on me.  Oh, yeah.  He is definitely my most favorite brother-in-law of all time.  They were awesome gifts.  The hubby got a really nice MP3 player and Seb got the TMNT party van, which he was very happy with.  It was a nice celebration and I woke up the next morning with a tequila headache.  Good times.

On Christmas morning, Seb slept in unitl about 7:40.  He probably would have slept later, but I had to get up and go to the bathroom, and I think I woke him up.  He got so much stuff.  I went completely crazy this year.  He got:

  • a sled
  • two transformers
  • 4 movies
  • 2 dino books
  • 1 set of really cool dragonology, choose your own adventure-type books
  • Imaginext moving and roaring Spinosaurus
  • Matchbox Meg Shark Rig set
  • Matchbox Dragon Castle
  • Matchbox Dino pop-up playset
  • underwear and jammies
  • lego bionacles set
  • a webkinz
  • 2 plasma dinosaurs
  • a completely stuffed stocking, full of candy, small toys, playdough, puzzle, etc.

The kid made out like a bandit, I tell ya!

I got a cool robe, a Red Wings long sleeved t-shirt, 3 plain long sleeved tees in pink, blue and red, "Echoes: the Best of Pink Floyd," perfume, lotion and soap from Bath & Body Works, a box of chocolates and a ton of chocolate in my stocking.

We got the hubby a business card holder, socks and underwear, God of War II for the PS2, a Detroit Lion’s hoodie, a Lion’s stocking and ornament.  In his stocking, he got chocolate covered espresso beans, dark chocolate covered raisins, Cadbury fruit and nut bar, Ghiradelli dark chocolate toffee expresions bar, and some mini milkyways and reese’s peanut butter cups.

In the afternoon, we went to my parent’s house.  Seb got the Shrek 3 movie, a transformer, a spinosaurus toy and some new clothes from my parents.  I got leather gloves to go with my coat, some slippers that have little dangly balls hanging form the ankles that the cat is just going to destroy and a Lane Bryant gift card.  The hubby got a Walmart gift card and a Hickory Farms giftset.  I ate waaaaaay too much food, listened to my family members complain about each other and my nephew Lucas took his first few steps.

It was a really nice holiday.  Busy, but nice.  Oh, and we learned that Lucas is just like his auntie.  He likes whipped cream straight out of the can and sprayed into his mouth, too.

I’m in!

Filed under: odds and ends, me, school

I got my grad school acceptance letter today!  Woohoo!!!  I’ll start in the spring semester, probably only taking one class, just to get back into the swing of things.  Now I have to set up my orientation and get in contact with my advisor so I can start planning my course of action.  Exciting stuff!!

I didn’t feel like sleeping tonight, anyway

Filed under: Sebastian, odds and ends, me, work

Nothing like waiting until the last minute.  I have to have all my goodies ready to go by tomorrow moring for Sebastian’s teacher and the ladies I work with.  the pretzels are finally done, but I have to bake two different kinds of cookies tonight, let them cool, bag everything up and package it all together.  It’s going to be a late night, methinks.

Joy to the world!

As of today, I am completely done with my Christmas shopping.  And there is still a week until Christmas!  Much as I hate to admit it, I am always one of the one’s running around like a crazy person at the very last minute, trying desperately to finish my shopping.  But not this year!  I picked up a sled for Bub and stocking stuffers for both the boys and that was it.  Of course, it was much fun trying to find a spot in our teeny tine apartment to hide one of those long, plastic, tobaggan type sleds.  It ended up in the hall closet behind all the coats that nobody ever wears, so hopefully, Seb doesn’t get curious and start digging around trying to find stuff.

I started dipping pretzels today.  I never did find the holiday shaped pretzels at any of the Meijer’s around here, so I’m just doing some mini twists, and the rods.  I’m going to try out some chocolate thumb print cookies, maybe dip some oreos (since my sister says that mine are better than the ones you can buy in the store) and some chocolate chip and frosted sugar cookies.  And did I mention that I have to make two pumpkin cheesecakes and pumpkin cobbler as well?  I need to have all the cookies and pretzels done by thursday so that I can bring them in to all the ladies I work with and Seb’s teacher on Friday.

I have to try and get all this accomplished with a really terrible cold, too.  The hubby was sick at the end of last week and during the weekend.  He managed to pass it along to me because by the time yesterday evening rolled around, I was feeling completely bleeeeecccchhh.  I went to bed a little after 8, but probably only managed about 3 hours of sleep, which sucks.  Oh, I just feel like crap.  All I really want to do is just crawl into bed and sleep for about 4 days.  Not gonna happen.

Snow Day!

Filed under: Sebastian, odds and ends, me, work

No school today!  We got about 8 inches or so of snow this weekend, so they cancelled school.  Oh, I was so happy when I saw our school district’s name scroll across the bottom of the tv screen.  I admit, I did a little dance around the living room.  Now I only have 4 more days with the little beasties until winter break, then I have eleven glorious days off.  Yippee!

Of course, Sebastian came and crawled into our bed at about 5:50 this morning, which is right when I wake him up for school.  Any other day, it’s a huge struggle to get him up and out of bed in the mornings, so of course, he got up on his own this morning when there’s no school.

Having him home does throw a tiny kink into my plans for the day.  The only Christmas shopping I have left to do is get some candy to put in his stocking.  Then I am completely done.  With everybody.  I had planned on finishing that up today, but I guess it will have to wait until tomorrow.  He’s gonna be bummed because I still have some running around to do today and he’s going to have to come along.  One of the places I need to go is right by the hubby’s work, so I attempted to bribe him with the idea of maybe seeing if his dad might want to meet us up for lunch, but so far, he’s not too interested.  Little man just can’t ever make anything easy for me.

I got all excited for nothin

Filed under: odds and ends, me, school

I sent my application for grad school off about three and a half weeks ago, so I’m thinking I should be hearing something anytime now.  So I got just a tad excited when I grabbed the mail a few minutes ago and there was a letter for me from WSU’s Graduate school admission’s office.  It turned out to be just a letter informing me they had received my application.  Well, thanks for that, I guess.  But what I really want to know is if I have been accepted or not.  Keeping my fingers crossed that I hear some good news fairly soon!

sicky poo, part 2

We’re back from the doctors.  Turns out, he does have pink eye.  Luckily, we caught it right at the beginning.  The doctor prescribed those lovely little drops, so we headed off to Meijer to get his prescription filled.  When we went to pick them up, the pharmacist said that there were a few problems.  FIrst, they had to call the insurance company because some number they needed wasn’t on the card.  Then, when they did call, the insurance company said they didn’t have Sebastian listed for prescription coverage.  Thank goodness, his script was only $13.10, so I just paid it out of pocket.

The pharmacist did tell me that if I could resovle it with the insurance company within the next six days, I could come in for a refund, rebill.  I don’t think I’m going to worry about it for that little bit of money, but what I am worried about is that we are going to get a whopping bill from the doctor’s office.  The receptionist called the hubby’s info in and there didn’t seem to be any problem, but wouldn’t that be just our luck to get slapped with a big doctor bill because of some silly screwup.

Oh!  And these drops for Seb’s eyes.  He is supposed to get one drop in each eye, four times daily.  How am I supposed to work this out for school.  I mean, I can come in at lunchtime and do them, and then again in the afternoon when he gets to Prime Time, but will they let me do that?  And then there’s Sebastian’s part in it.  Mr. Dramatic has to make a big production every time he gets drops in his eyes.  Not exactly something I want to demonstrate in front of all the people I work with.  Won’t this be fun.

Well, Sebastian and I have an unexpected day off of school today.  He’s had a bad cold for nearly a week now and he woke up this morning with his eyes all gooped up and crusted over.  If it had just been the cold, I would have still dragged him to school, but with goopy eyes, can’t do it.  So we will be heading to the doctors later this afternoon.

We were supposed to go to Frankenmuth yesterday with my entire family, but my mom called and cancelled on Saturday night because the weather was forecasted to be really ugly, with lots of snow, sleet and freezing rain.  As it turns out, we didn’t get any of that, it all stayed south of us.  But if we had gone, I’m sure Seb would have infected all my nieces and nephews, so I guess it’s a good thing we postponed it.  Hopefully, he’ll be good to go by this Sunday, when we have rescheduled the trip.

And as much as I appreciate having an extra day off of work, I did have stuff planned to do.  SOme christmas shopping, a trip to the laundrymat, maybe even get some presents wrapped.  That’s all in the toilet.  And of course, I’m worried about what’s going on at work.  If I’m not there, I don’t have control over what happens.  Yet if something goes terribly wrong, my butt’s the one in the deep fryer.  I made sure they had both my home and cell phone and I’ll probably call to check in this afternoon.  Yes, I am a bit of a control freak.  More than likely, everything will be just fine.  It’s just those little nagging what-ifs that drive me insane.

Reason 49876 why I cannot wait until we own a home

Filed under: the hubby, odds and ends, me

Not having to lug groceries up three flights of stairs.  The hubby insists on living on the top floor if possible, no matter what apartment we have lived in because he doesn’t want to listen to people moving around above us.  Yet it somehow always works out that I am the one carrying  four million bags of groceries, or laundry or whatever up all those stairs.

It would be oh so nice to pull my truck into a garage, open a door and walk directly into my kitchen.  With any luck, that will be my reality by the end of this summer.

I just had to go online to get directions for making paper snowflakes.  I couldn’t remember how to make the folds and kept ending up with half a snowflake.  I’m such a goofus.
