Out of My Mind

10 lbs!

I’m down another 4 pounds, for a total of 10 pounds lost so far!  Woohoo!  Only 55 more to go!  I knew the odds of doing fairly well this week were pretty good since I totally stunk it up the week before.  Today was one of my cheat days, though.  Seb had a half day of school, so we had a "Mommy-Bubba date."  We went to the Olive Garden for lunch.  I had the soup-salad-breadsticks meal.  I really wanted the grilled shrimp and cheese stuffed rigatoni, but I was able to hold myself back.  Then we went to the movies and Seb and I shared some popcorn.  Definitely going to have to do the 4 mile trip around the lake tomorrow.  Except that it’s supposed to be, oh, about 30 degrees for a low tonight.  Oh, well.  I’ll just have to tough it out.  I didn’t walk today, so I have to tomorrow.  Hopefully, I don’t get pooped on like I did yesterday.  That was really gross.  I was walking under a tree and felt something hit my arm.  I looked down and there was a quarter-sized blob of bird poop on my arm.  The good news:  I was wearing a jacket.  The bad news:  I had just washed that jacket.  I guess it could have been worse.  It could have landed on my hair.

Out of Sebastian’s Mind

I would not be lying if I said that Sebastian has one heck of an imagination.  It’s always interesting to watch and listen to him while he’s playing with his toys.  Just a little bit ago, I was sitting on the couch reading and he was playing with his dragons and dinosaurs.  I was only half tuned in to what he was saying when I suddenly heard "Dirty mouth?  You need some Orbit White to clean that thing up!"  So said a pteranodon to a dragon.  It was all I could do to not just bust out laughing.  I put my book up in front of my face and laughed silently.  Where does he come up with this stuff?

Getting a little nervous

Filed under: odds and ends, me, school

My MLIS classes start in less than two weeks.  I am taking Intro to the Information Profession and Information Technology.  Both are online classes, which I have never done before.  Luckily, the hubby is an old pro at online classes, so I have a feeling I’ll be leaning heavily on him this first semester.  I still need to buy books, get my One card, see my advisor and get my loan deferment taken care of.  Guess I better get on that tomorrow.  It will be weird to be back in school mode.  It’s been five years since I graduated from Western.  I’m really hoping that my first two classes aren’t too bad so that I can slide back into the whole school thing with a minimum of fuss and stress.

The beginning of my crochet addiction

Filed under: odds and ends, me, craftiness

I knew I liked it when I crocheted the blanket for Mackenzie.  But I did a craft swap recently on my momma board and am now a complete addict.  Sebastian has aked me to please just stop doing it for a while.  There are crochet hooks, yarn, patterns, half finished projects all over the apartment.  And I have a feeling it’s only going to get worse.

Anyhoo, now that my swapee has received her gifts, I can post some pics of the projects I made.

This is a shawl that must have started, torn apart and started again at least three times.

I also made a book mark and some magnets.  My swapee’s husband is in the military, hence the patriotic theme with the magnets.

Also, I sent some of my pretzel rods dipped in caramel and chocolate and I dipped some oreos, too.  She said she’s probably going to send some of those to her husband, which I thought was pretty neat.  I don’t personally know anybody over there, so the thought that something I made is going to be sent as a treat to brighten the day of one of our troops is really cool to me.

549

That’s how many days until we leave for Disney.  We went over to the hubby’s brother and SIL’s house on Saturday and started planning things out.  It will be the hubs, Seb and I, Gary, Sharon and their two kids, our niece Laura (who is only two years younger than me!), her husband and their two kids and probably the hubby’s other sister Linda and her daughter Sam.  We are all very excited!

My BIL and SIL joined the Disney vacation club, so they are using their points to get a suite so we won’t have to pay for accomodations, which is schweet, indeed.  SIL and her two kids are flying.  Bub wants to fly and I am undecided at this point.  Everybody else is driving.  We’ll probably take Sharon’s car, which holds 7 and rent another vehicle, and split the costs between everyone who is driving to save on plane fair, which will probably be astronomical by that time.

We are all so very excited.  Sharon showed us pictures of the villas where we will be staying and it is so nice.  Did I mention it’s the Animal Kingdom Lodge.  Oh, yeah.  We wouldn’t be able to afford to stay there for 10 days on our own, so I am really geeked.  And it is still a year and a half away!

I’ve been naughty

Dietwise, that is.  This week I was down another 2 pounds on Wednesday morning, now, I’m actually up half a pound from where I started at the beginning of the week.  I did manage to walk 8 miles during the week, but that’s about the only good thing.  On Wednesday, I had my root canal done, and decided that I needed some Cold Stone Creamery cake batter ice cream after Seb got out of karate.  That was about 650 calories right there.  This week, I also had chinese for lunch one day, pizza for dinner of friday and Burger King last night.  Ugh. Next week will be better.  I promise!

A Conversation with Sebastian

Monday afternoon, after Sebastian’s conference, the two of us went for a walk. Along the way, we were talking about school. This is part of the conversation.

Seb: A lot of the girls at school have crushes on some of the boys now.

Me: Oh, really.

Seb: Yeah, it’s crazy.

Me: So, do any of the girls have a crush on you?

Seb: Nope. I’m just lucky I guess. Who would want to have girls chasing after you all the time, anyway?

Me: (laughing) You will. Just you wait.

It was really cute the way he said it. But the best part of the walk? He held my hand nearly the entire time. Now that he’s such a big second grader, he’s not into the whole showing affection in public thing. It’s embarrassing. But for whatever reason, he was okay with it this time. And it just topped off a great day.

Woot!

I’m down another 3 pounds, for a total of 6 so far!  I figure if I can keep up this 3 pound a week thing, I’ll be below 200 lbs by the end of May.  That would be wonderful.  I haven’t been below 200 since I was about 4 and a half months pregnant with Sebastian.  I know the lower I go, the harder it is going to be to take the weight off, but I am so determined to get the results I want this time.  I’m already thinking about how nice it’ll be to be able to shop in the "normal" ladies section again.  No more "women’s" for me!

Conference update

It went pretty well! Thank goodness! She said it’s not a 100% turnaround, but he’s doing much better. On days when he’s with it, he does all his work and does great. He still has some days where he is kind of uncooperative and doesn’t want to do his work, but nothing like before. He does need to take more time with his work. She said he is very bright, but he tends to rush through things and she would like to see him taking more time with his work and putting a little more effort into detail and thinking things through. She also said he shows a remarkable amount of compassion towards other people for a boy his age, which made my heart happy. I told her how he has started karate and loves it and she thought that was a great thing for him to do because of all the important principles they teach there.

Yay for good conferences!!

It’s conference day

Sebastian’s third quarter conference is this afternoon at 1.  Ugh.  They only did them for kids that need them, so I’m a little worried.  My hope is that she’ll say that he’s doing a lot better, for the most part.  He did get written up last week, for the first time in a long time, which sucked.  After the conference and we get his report card, I have to make an appointment with his pediatrician who wanted to do a follow-up, 2-3 months down the road after we saw him in January.  I’ll update after we get home.
